BEGINNING MEDITATION

THE PROCESS OF AWAKENING
TRADITIONAL MEDITATION TECHNIQUES
The true paths of mystical traditions (even Beginning Meditation) are the proven avenues to the goal of Unity - Divine Consciousness. Each is like a different work of art, a masterpiece universally recognized as the "real thing" ; a road to the immutable and adamantine Divine Truth.
Understanding the traditional techniques and methods for the clarification of consciousness can facilitate ease of movement through the process to awakening. Practicing these sciences for balancing and transmuting mundane physical energy into supramundane spirituality can be approached with awe and reverence. Any such method from a true path is a gem, a component of the treasure.
ENERGY
Beginning Meditation can lead to the development of an internal witness. ..The witness is awareness...objective observation...watching. Watching energy and physical material manifestation is fun. Take ice - add heat and...voila, water! Add a little more heat and...voila, steam! So, apply that to yourself. Think of yourself as a retained manifestation of energy, somewhere between the human equivilant of ice and steam. Now, add heat....whoa!
The effects of bringing an entire human being into balance and focusing conscious awareness on the reservoir of limitless energy is like adding and directing heat, for transmutation to a higher manifestation (ice-water-steam).
Sound simple? Well, really it is ... the one difficult aspect is that throughout our lives we have established a series of beliefs that don't always match what is real. This leads to contradictions (inside and outside). And one thing that is required to keep our energy ascending (ice-water-steam) is an internal equilibrium.
Without that equilibrium, our psyche cannot contain and manage the accelerating energy and must find an outlet to dump it. This isn't a bad thing. It is a built in mechanism, a release valve, that prevents psychic overload. And back down we go, to a level that we can handle.
How come we can't handle the higher energy? Contradiction. How do we resolve that? Well...
1. Self-Analysis, certainly. Examining, with our objective internal witness, our ego mechanisms and tracing them to their seed.
2. Replacing the recognized patterned behavior with the divine principle that is in fact the wisdom presented by the contradiction, just for you. This can be achieved with Mantram based meditation.
3. Continual, relentless application of the "heat". This can be accomplished by routinely practicing a form of emptiness meditation (Beginning Meditation is a start) and bringing it with you wherever you go.
BEGINNING MEDITATION
1. SIT IN A LOTUS OR HALF-LOTUS OR CROSS-LEGGED POSITION.
2. SPINE STRAIGHT, BODY RELAXED
3. HANDS IN LAP, LEFT RESTS IN PALM OF RIGHT. THUMB TIPS TOUCH
4. CHIN SLIGHTLY TUCKED IN.
5. TONGUE LIGHTLY TOUCHES THE ROOF OF THE MOUTH.
6. CONCENTRATE ON YOUR PHYSICAL CENTER (TAN TIEN) JUST BELOW YOUR NAVEL AND AS YOU SLOWLY INHALE THROUGH YOUR NOSE, FEEL THAT THE PHYSICAL CENTER ATTRACTS YOUR DIAPHRAM DOWN, CAUSING YOUR LUNGS TO SLOWLY FILL FROM THE BOTTOM TO THE TOP. ON THE EXHALE, THROUGH YOUR NOSE, THE ATTRACTION RELEASES AS YOUR LUNGS SLOWLY EMPTY FROM TOP TO BOTTOM. THE BREATHING IS SLOW AND UNFORCED.
7. LET YOUR MIND RESIDE IN AN EMPTY ATTENTIVE STATE.
8. RECOGNIZE THAT ANY THOUGHTS OR SENSORY STIMULI HAVE NO PERMANENCE. THEY COME AND THEY GO. ALL THE WHILE, YOUR ATTENTION ABIDES IN A CALM EMPTY STATE OF AWARENESS.
